Velox Processing Platform
Velox is Oticon’s latest processing platform, an ultra-fast and precise system. Velox equips Oticon hearing aids with a 64-band frequency resolution, which gives wearers clearer sound quality and assists the brain’s hearing process. Wearers report 20% reduction in listening effort in noisy environments and 20% more capacity to remember in challenging noise situations. With clearer sound signals, the brain no longer struggles to make sense of muddled sounds. This also helps with speech recognition, as Velox wearers report 30% better speech understanding and clarity in noise.
Oticon’s newest hearing aid is the OPN, powered by Velox’s “open sound solution.” This technology provides wearers with a full picture of one’s soundscape, which empowers wearers to focus on the sounds they want to hear. The open sound solution comes with significant cognitive benefits. Building upon Oticon’s BrainHearing Technology, which supports the brain the auditory process, OPN wearers experience a fuller spectrum of sound in their environment. Additionally, OPN provides a unique experience that sets it apart from older hearing aids. Rather than suppressing sounds, OPN’s open sound solution provides wearers with more audio information, and thus, more natural listening experience.
By simultaneously taking in environmental sounds, wearers are able to make decisions to focus on the sounds they want to hear. The OpenSound Navigator Environmental Analyzer scans the full 360-degrees of the wearer’s current listening environment 100 times a second. The Velox Platform is equipped with algorithms that analyze and balance every sound. Even in noisy situations, OPN wearers are able to focus on the sounds they wish to hear.
OPN offers TwinLink technology, which is two wireless communication systems in one hearing aid. OPN is equipped with near-field magnetic communication (NFMI) to simulate ear-to-ear communication between the two hearing aids. TwinLink also uses Bluetooth to provide OPN wearers the option to stream phone calls, music, and other media directly from their smartphones to their hearing aids. Through the web service If This Then That (IFTTT.com), OPN is the first hearing aid to connect to the Internet. It links up OPN wearers to sounds commonly experienced in daily life (doorbells, baby monitors, alarms, thermostats, security systems, etc.). Let’s take a little deeper look.
Oticon’s Latest Most Advanced Premium Solution
Oticon have introduced hearing aids so small they are practically invisible, they come in a range of shades and colours. The internet-enabled Oticon Opn comes with a number of additional features because it can connect to devices via the internet and Bluetooth. The hearing aids sync to your phone so you can make phone calls and listen to music without any headphones.
Anything that is Bluetooth enabled you can connect them to. This means that the hearing aids can also be connected to things like doorbells, appliances, or even baby monitors. Then when the doorbell rings, for example, you will get a small ‘ring’ in your ear to let you know.
Open Up A Closed World
Less listening effort – reducing the load on the brain in noisy environments
More capacity to remember – freeing up mental resources, enabling the user to recall more in noisy environments
Better speech understanding – even in the most noisy environments, without suppressing surrounding sounds through narrow directionality
Less stress. Remember more. Better hearing. Oticon Opn™ introduces groundbreaking technology that is fast enough to support the brain. With precision and accuracy it analyzes the acoustic environment and differentiates between the individual sounds.
The result is a significant improvement in the ability to understand speech in complex environments while, at the same time, preserving mental energy – ultimately empowering users to Open Up to the World. Users are provided with more accurate information making it easier to locate and separate sound sources so they can focus on what they find important. This happens so quickly it facilitates the listener’s ability to change focus when desired.
This is the premium hearing aid in Oticon’s range which uses their new Velox Sense processing chip. This range is a completely new way of processing sound and is suitable for more demanding listening environments.
Oticon Opn is available in a compact, newly designed miniRITE that sits discreetly on the ear. Oticon Opn offers a wealth of new features and functionalities all incorporated in a sleek and modern 312 battery-based design. The Opn is available in a range of colours.
Oticon Opn Mini RITE: wireless slimline ‘Mini-Receiver-In-Ear (miniRITE)’ hearing aid using a 312 battery
Oticon is best known for their BrainHearing Technology, which supports the brain in the natural auditory process. When people experience hearing loss, the brain struggles to fill in gaps of auditory signals, which eventually tires out the brain and could lead to issues such as dementia. BrainHearing Technology provides Oticon hearing aids with four main features to support the auditory system.
To address speech recognition, SpeechGuard E protects speech sounds and enables wearers to anticipate speech patterns. It is especially useful in noisy situations when speakers’ voices may be drowned out. To help Oticon wearers locate sound, the Spatial Sound feature supports the brain’s natural abilities to identify the direction from which sounds come. Along with FreeFocus, Oticon wearers are able to focus on the sounds they prefer to hear, and it also assists in shifting between different conversation and noise environments. With the understanding that hearing is a very personal experience, the YouMatic feature enables Oticon hearing aid wearers to customize their hearing aids to meet their specific needs.
Other Features and Styles
Oticon’s most popular hearing aid models are the Alta, Nera, and Ria, which are worn completely-in-canal (CIC) or invisible-in-canal (IIC). BrainHearing Technology is available in these families of hearing aids. Oticon hearing aids are able to connect wirelessly to smartphones and personal electronic devices, and some are equipped with tinnitus therapy features.

For a hearing aid to work well, there is much more to think about than simply making sounds louder. This is because of the manner in which we hear, your ears work together to locate where sound is coming from and to help you choose what to listen to. your ears simply pick up sounds and send them to your brain. Which is where you actually hear, your brain translates those sounds into meaning. When you have a hearing loss, you need hearing aids to help you pick up all of the information contained in sounds to be able to send it to the brain.
The more detailed the information your brain receives, the easier it is to identify and understand what you are hearing. The Ria hearing aids offer excellent sound quality and preserve sounds in their natural form to make hearing both easy and realistic. The key to Ria2’s excellent sound quality is the tiny but extremely powerful Inium sound processing chip, the same chip that is used in the premium and mid level aids. This enables Ria2 to process a huge range of different sounds, sending more information of high quality to your brain. This helps you to understand conversations better, even in noisy environments.
